Msgr. Mike is the son of George and Christine Bugarin of Shelby Township, Michigan. He has three sisters: Jackie Bugarin, Cindy Finn and Sandy Labut.
Upon graduating from Sterling Heights High School in 1982, Msgr. Mike entered Detroit's Sacred Heart Major Seminary. There he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A.) in 1986. In 1986, Msgr. Mike was assigned to graduate studies in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University with residency at the Pontifical North American College from 1986 - 1991. While in Rome he earned a Bachelors in Sacred Theology (S.T.B.) and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) from the Gregorian University. He was ordained a transitional deacon by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, Archbishop of Chicago, at St. Peter's Basilica on April 26, 1990.
During his tenure in Washington, DC, Msgr. Mike also earned a Licentiate in Canon Law from The Catholic University of America in 2003.
Msgr. Mike was named a Chaplain to His Holiness in 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI.
In 2005, Msgr. Mike was named Vicar of the SERF Vicariate, a position he continues to hold. He has also served on the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Detroit since November 2009.
Also in November of 2009, Archbishop Vigneron appointed Msgr. Mike an Episcopal Vicar and his delegate with a special mandate to address any and all matters relating to the misconduct of clergy within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
