Planned Giving is sometimes referred to as gift planning. Planned giving is defined as a method of supporting a non-profit such as St. Joan of Arc Church and School or other worthy charities. Planned giving enables philanthropic parishioners or friends of St. Joan of Arc to make larger gifts than they could make from their income.
Thus, a planned gift is any gift, made during one’s lifetime or at death as part of parishioners or friend’s overall financial planning or estate planning.
In comparison, gifts of weekly offerings or membership dues or parish events are made from someone’s discretionary income, and while they may be a budgeted item, they are not planned.
Planned Gifts fall into three main categories:
- Gifts that use appreciated assets:
- Gifts that return income or other financial benefits to the donor, in return for the contribution:
- Gifts payable upon the death of the donor:
