Music plays a vital role in the practices of Catholic Liturgy. This is because the primary purpose ofmusic during liturgy is its function. Music, rather than being an entity unto itself, always serves a practical function in the liturgy, whether it be to accompany the opening procession, to offer a meditation on the readings, to accompany the distribution of the Eucharist, etc. Moreover, in addition to the general concept of music singing also has paramount importance to the Catholic Liturgy. The Liturgy contains many sung acclamations meant to hearld or reflect upon the actions and rituals taking place during the liturgy. Singing can also transform our prayer into a higher, more effective form of expression. Singing can also transform our prayer into a higher, more effective form of expression. Singing also helps to unite the congregation in one voice proclaiming the Word of God.
