TALLer TALES……………...

A Typical Family Gathering: It was the January birthday celebration last Sunday up in Allenton. Most of the gang was there so we easily had 30+ people throughout the afternoon and evening. When I arrived, many of the kids and some of the adults were playing hockey on the pond. As a result of the game outside the TV room was empty. Hurray! How could this be? The usual suspects normally occupy their favorite recliner without giving any of us even a chance to invade their space. Even though the center of their attention should be the TV, most drift off to sleep, oblivious to the activity taking place throughout the rest of the house (until the great call for prayer and dinner are heard). With the room empty, it was with great joy a few of us took possession of the much respected recliners and engaged in conversation about everything and nothing simply to watch the frustration of the hockey crowd return to the inside with the hopes they could regain their space. Sorry folks. We purposely kept talking while watching the obvious confusion of the usual TV room crowd. They paced back and forth peering into the room with the hopes their favorite chair or floor space would soon be empty. We were determined to wait them out. But then the call for prayer and dinner were heard. We ran, like they usually do, only to fear it was all a scam to get us out of the room.

Fireproof

Please join us on Saturday February 27th immediately following the 6:00 PM Mass (7:00 ish) for the second viewing of the Movie Fireproof.

This is a very powerful and moving story of a young couple struggling in their marriage. However, this movie is not meant only for those
struggling. It is mostly intended for those couples who wish to strengthen their marriage by putting God at the center. If you wish to attend or have any questions please feel free to speak with Msgr. Bugarin, Deacon Mike, Tracey his wife, or
Sr. Carol.

Look for further information in the weeks to come. We will also have couples speaking at all the Masses in the coming weeks to share their experience of Fireproof. May God bless all married couples.

Journey To Joy! Poster Contest

St. Joan of Arc Parish is encouraging children from grades Kindergarten through Eight to participate in the Mission Poster Contest. The title of the upcoming mission is "Journey to Joy" which will include experiencing the Joy of God’s Love through music, fellowship, conversation, prayer and joy. Jesus, the Eucharist, and the Miracles of God's Love for His people will be emphasized.

There are many creative young people in our parish and their help is needed to create posters for the upcoming mission. Winning posters will be used to announce specifics of the mission, as program booklet covers, and on prayer cards. Submitted posters will be displayed in the school, parish center, and church gathering space prior to the mission. During the mission these posters will all be displayed in church common areas.

Please contact the parish office for guidelines and registration form (586-777-3670 or info@sjascs.org)

Little Hands Big Hearts

Monsignor Bugarin, the Liturgy and Worship Commission and I have been in dialogue for a few months now regarding a new ministry in which our children will learn the meaning of stewardship.  Little Hands Big Hearts is the way our children can be catechized to share with the less fortunate among us.  This ministry will begin on the First Sunday of Lent, February 21st and take place at all the weekend Masses.  At the offertory time (as the ushers are taking up the collection) we will invite all the children to come forward with a canned good and drop it in the baskets provided near the altar.  These canned goods will then be added to our Emergency Food Pantry.

As we are all well aware that with our economy at the present, we have been experiencing many more families coming to our door in need of food and assistance.  We would ask that you please check the dates on these canned goods before donating them.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the Parish Center. Together let us encourage our children to "think" beyond our own dining room tables and reach out to other children less fortunate.  This could also be a teachable moment for you as parents.  Thank you for your continued generosity.  God bless.  Sr. Carol (586-777-3670 or cjuhasz@sjascs.org)

Save the Date

March 20, St. Joan of Arc‘s Ecology Club, the Green Team, will be holding an Electronic Recycle Fundraiser. If you are planning to get a new T.V. or computer for Christmas, hold onto the old one for March 20. Any and all electronics will be accepted. Disposing of electronics in the regular trash end up in landfills, where the heavy metals leach out and the glass and plastics do not decompose. Do your part for the world and ecology; recycle your electronics on March 20.

More detailed information will be available, closer to the date.
