Mission Appeal Weekend

This weekend there will be an annual mission appeal for the Dioceses of Comayagua which is in Honduras Central America.

The church came to Honduras in the very early 16th century as a result of the Spanish effort to go to India. Mistakenly they took Honduras to be India. It was a great priority for the king of Spain to evangelize the new world and enter them into the Christian faith. As a result of their efforts, and the work of the Spanish Franciscan missionaries the country was quickly made catholic. Unfortunately, the church was catholic but without priests. Our work in Honduras,500 years later, was to pick up this great problem and try to provide native priests for the many people who are without the services of the church. All of your attention and help will aid us in this effort to establish the local church in Comayagua.

TALLer TALES……………...

Welcome Fr. Paul Kersey! This weekend, we welcome Fr. Paul Kersey from the Diocese of Comayagua, Honduras, who will be preaching at all the masses as part of our annual missionary cooperative appeal.

According to the Vatican Statistical Yearbook for 2007, the Diocese of Comayagua is about 7,500 square kilometers in size. The area is predominately Catholic. It has a total population of 689,725 with some 642,254 Catholics. It has 29 parishes and 14 mission churches all being served by 33 priests, 18 religious men and 58 religious women. I am sure Fr. Paul will share much more with you at the masses this weekend. He will be at St. Joan for the entire week so I'm sure you will see him at our daily masses as well.
